A Sage espresso machine lasts longest when it gets a service now and then. Copenhagen tap water is hard, and scale and worn seals are the most common reasons these machines stop working. At the workshop in Østerbro we open the machine, clean it inside and replace what is worn, before it turns into an expensive repair.

What a service includes
Thorough descaling
Including the places the machine’s own descaling programme doesn’t reach, such as valves, hoses and the heater.
New seals
The group head gasket and worn O-rings are replaced, so the portafilter seals and the machine doesn’t leak.
Brew path cleaned
Shower screen, group head and valves are cleaned of coffee oils and scale.
The grinder
On machines with a built-in grinder, the grinder is cleaned of old coffee and checked for wear.
Steam and milk
The steam wand and steam path are cleaned, and automatic milk texturing is checked on the models that have it.
Tested with coffee
Finally we check the pressure and temperature and pull an espresso before the machine goes back.
When does your Sage need a service?
With daily use, every 1–2 years is a good rule. Signs it’s time:
- The pressure has dropped, or the coffee runs unevenly
- The coffee is lukewarm, or the steam has got weaker
- The portafilter leaks or turns further than it used to
- The pump is louder than usual
- The machine asks for descaling again soon after

Diagnosis is free. Below is where most repairs land, so you can tell whether it is worth going ahead. The exact price we can only set once the machine is on the bench, because that is the only way to see what is actually wrong.

Questions and answers
How much does a Sage service cost?
A normal service with descaling, new seals and a full check usually costs 600–900 kr with parts. The Oracle and Dual Boiler sit at the top of the range. You get the price before we start, and if we find a fault along the way, we ask you first.
How often should a Sage be serviced?
With daily use, every 1–2 years is a good rule, and more often with hard water like Copenhagen’s. Descale it yourself following the manual in between.
Isn’t a service just a descale?
No. The machine’s descaling programme only flushes the parts the water runs through. In a service we open the machine, clean it inside, replace worn seals and check the pressure, temperature and valves.
How long does a service take?
The machine is usually ready in 3–7 days, often sooner. We let you know as soon as it’s ready to collect.

Yes, by appointment. The workshop is at Nyborggade 11D, 2100 Copenhagen Ø, about 200 metres from Poul Henningsens Plads metro station. Send an enquiry first, and we’ll agree on a time.
How much does a repair cost?
It depends on the fault and the parts that need replacing. Answer a few short questions here and send a photo, and you’ll get a ballpark price straight away. The exact price we can only give once the machine is on the bench – that is the only way to see what is actually wrong. You get the price before we start, and you decide.
Can I get the price before I drop the machine off?
You can get an estimate from your description and a couple of photos. The binding price comes once we have seen the machine. If it is higher than you expected, just say no thanks.
What does it cost if I say no thanks?
Nothing. The assessment is free and non-binding. If you turn down the price, you get the machine back as it is, with no bill.
How long does it take?
Usually 3–7 days, often faster. If special parts need ordering, you’ll hear about the timing together with the price.
Is there a warranty on the repair?
Yes, a 12-month warranty. It covers the fault we repaired and the parts we fitted. If the same thing fails again within the year, we put it right at no charge. It does not cover new faults unrelated to the repair, limescale from not descaling, or damage from misuse.
How do I get the machine to you?
You drop the machine off with us at Nyborggade 11D, Østerbro. We agree on a time once you’ve sent your enquiry. If you need it picked up, just say so and we’ll find a solution.
Is Sage the same as Breville?
Yes. Sage is the name Breville uses in the UK and Europe. A Sage Barista Express is the same machine as a Breville Barista Express, and we repair both.
